1. WHY ARE YOU THE BEST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE?

Education has become the epicenter for political debate and discussion, and there is a good reason for that phenomenon. Schools help determine how our children think and who they will become. There is a reason our social media and school board meetings are in hot debate about Critical Race Theory, High-Stakes Testing, and the role of parents, among a litany of other divisive topics. Moreover, we cannot reasonably expect to lower Dallas’ 1 in 5 poverty rate, reduce crime, create new community wealth, or address any other societal ill with an ineffective and outdated school system. We need someone who can articulate why our schools aren’t working and how we can make them work to best support students, parents, and the community. My expertise and experience in education combined with my experience in the private sector and as a small-business owner puts me in the unique position to best represent District 30’s interest in helping to empower our community from the ground up.

As a representative, I must balance being beholden to the constituents in my community and to my ideological principles. As a classical conservative, I believe that a return to small, locally-focused government will allow for this balance. We do not need to force New York ideas on Texans any more than we need to have citizens of Dallas dictate policy to those in San Francisco. Instead, we must return the republican model where all states and communities are empowered to be laborites of democracy. As in all markets, the best ideas will gain traction and spread around the country, while the worst ideas will die out.

I believe that both parties have given the extremes an outsized voice in their party. I can think of no better example than the gridlock current on display in the halls of Congress. We have more social media grudge matches than passed legislation and publicity stunts are more common than civil discourse. As the next representative of District 30, I will be beholden to the constituents in my community and to my ideological principles of small government, free market economics, and a strict interpretation of the Constitution and the liberties it affords the citizens. In that regard, I am a true conservative who will fight for those ideals alongside all who agree and against any who oppose. I will also focus my most vicious rhetoric on the ideas, not the individual.

As with all systems, the US is constantly revising and amending to make a more perfect union. Our approaches to suffrage have been no different, nor should they be. I have been dismayed at calls for changing the Constitutional approach to elections by removing the Electoral College, allowing for federal infringement over states rights without even half of the Senate in agreement, and by decrying any measure to instill a structure and process to voting as “the new Jim Crow”. Such hyperbole is dishonest, ignorant, and seemingly intentionally divisive. After the chaos of the 2020 election, I believe that the state should and have led the charge to ensure equal and fair voting access to all.

5. WHAT KEY ISSUES WOULD YOU ADDRESS IN AN IMMIGRATION REFORM BILL?

I support comprehensive immigration reform which would address our borders, refine the asylum program, and find ways to address, not ignore, the total undocumented population. We should continue to use the Remain in Mexico policy as a temporary measure to stem the flow of immigrants at our southern border until we can better secure our borders through the creation and completion of any necessary physical barriers, hiring more border personnel, holding a zero tolerance policy for human traffickers, refurbishing our ports of entry, and approving new judges to more quickly process asylum claims to ensure our refugee programs remain efficient in helping those in the greatest need. We must concurrently explore continental and international trade policies to curb migration beyond the border, including private investment in The Northern Triangle. Finally, Congress must reform immigration comprehensively to address the status of all illegal immigrants, undocumented residents, and legal residents in need of resolution (ie - Dreamers), organized by legal status, criminal record, and employment or school history.

In remaking education to allow families more choices of school setting, curricular foci, and learning styles, we will see our students find more success by being in the learning environment that best suites their needs. We cannot stop there, however, as we need more post-secondary options. Telling all students to fit a single mold and follow the same track to college is ineffective. We need to expand options beyond higher education to include more job training, trade schools, and internships, specifically in tech industries, that will lead to more direct employment instead of crippling student loan debt.

Education is only one part of the puzzle. Generational poverty that has permanently left 20% of Dallas drowning in poverty. Poor education options for these families in the greatest need stifle any wealth and job creation, while increasing crime and poverty. This leaves whole communities battling to put food on the table and fearing for their safety instead of engaging in their piece of the American Dream. I plan to combat this on three fronts: education by championing competition with an education marketplace, economic equality with Opportunity Zones, and by staunchly advocating for more community freedom to address their needs without oversight from people 1,500 miles away in Washington whose sole knowledge of Dallas is encapsulated in the word Cowboys.

The U.S. economy is crashing with President Biden and Speaker Pelosi driving the car. Confronting the highest inflation in 40 years and a rapidly approaching financial cliff of $210 trillion in unfunded liabilities, we must change course immediately. Congress consistently either prints money which serves as a de facto tax on those with the least among us or misappropriates taxpayers’ hard-earned money on programs that, while well-intentioned, perpetuate inequity. As such, the evidence is clear that we need less government involved in the economy. Instead, we must limit burdensome regulations developed by bureaucrats, universally support innovation, and incentive investments in ventures to create wealth in our communities of greatest need. Allowing the individual more freedom to use their money as they see fit will ensure the long term growth of our economy and our country as a whole.
